Living up to the title of the most important alternative festival in Poland, one of the ambitions of the organizers is to present artists whose work constitutes the foundations of contemporary independent music. We thus have the immense pleasure of announcing DINOSAUR JR.’s first concert ever in Poland at this year’s OFF Festival Katowice, August 5–8 at Dolina Trzech Stawów.

OFF Festival Katowice’s star-studded roster will also include the melancholy Americans from SHEARWATER and their compatriots from the avant-garde rock band THE PSYCHIC PARAMOUNT. Another representative of the United States — associated with the electronic scene for a change — will be the much awaited in Poland Chazwick Bundick, a.k.a. TORO Y MOI. Dubstep fans will be happy to hear that the British duet DARKSTAR will be appearing as well, modern folk fans will be glad to see TUNNG, and those interested in the cutting edge of original musical projects on the Polish scene will get a chance to see NIWEA play live.

The previously announced project titled “Inspired by Chopin” will take place at OFF Festival Katowice 2010, commemorating the 200th birthday of Frederic Chopin, to whom this year’s edition is dedicated. “Inspired by Chopin” will include two more American projects: the experimental pop ECSTATIC SUNSHINE, who will go on stage before Matmos the New Yorkers from ZS.

As announced earlier, the August 5 concert by the duet MATMOS will inaugurate this year’s anniversary edition of the festival. The organizers have chosen Katowice’s HIPNOZA Jazz Club as the venue for this event.
